Beschreibung
Since its inception, Palermo has been a crossroads of peoples and cultures that followed one another over the centuries, leaving an indelible mark both on the physical structure and on the soul of the city.
This guided tour - a short walk of little more than one kilometer (just under 1 mile) from Porta Nuova to Porta Felice - will describe the many changes that have taken place over time. Strolling along the ancient Cassaro and its side alleys, you will take a trip into the past of the city, without forgetting its present and imagining its future.
Punctuated by significant encounters with old and new inhabitants of the historical center, your guided tour allows you to immerse yourself into the essence of Palermo and the Palermitans - from the Phoenician roots to the Roman villas and the Arab-Norman Cathedral (which was an Arab mosque before), from late Renaissance to Baroque and neoclassical architecture, to the traces of Garibaldi and his troops (whose military campaigns eventually led to the Italian unification) and the wounds left by the allied bombs of 1943, and graffiti street art.
