After this taste of Saint Mark’s fascinating history, your visit will continue to locations usually closed to the public. This part of the tour will take you to the Baptistery and the Zen Chapel - built as a funerary chapel for Cardinal Giambattista Zen at the time of his death in1501, with mosaics depicting scenes from the life of Saint Mark - and to the Treasure of Saint Mark and the Golden Pall. The silver and gold Pala d'Oro is the high altar retable considered one of the most accomplished examples of Byzantine craftsmanship, and arguably one of the most precious objects in the world.
