Description
The markets of Palermo, such as those of the Capo or Ballarò neighborhoods, reveal the pulsating life of the Sicilian capital. Walking between the stands and the hollering vendors, you enter a world as ancient as the history of the island.
The fish, with its many shades of blue and gray, the ice that keeps it fresh, the skins of fruits and vegetables thrown on the ground, the multitude of regular customers in the market, the scent of fried chickpea fritters (panelle) and pane ca'meusa (soft buns stuffed with chopped veal's lung and spleen that have been boiled and then fried) - how could one not remain open-mouthed in front of this spectacle?
This triumph of the senses is a reminder of the long history of this town, but also illustrates its current history: the Capo market remains almost exclusively attended by Palermitans, while the African community is much more present in Ballarò, adding a colourful multi ethnic aspect.
Let us take you through this labyrinth of the senses - you’ll meet Palermo through its gastronomic tradition, as tastings are included!
