Folgefonna National Park: The Magnificent Glacier Lake Bondhus (from Bergen)

Join us on a journey to one of Norway's most breathtaking lakes: Bondhusvatnet. Renowned for its stunning destination and a beautiful, easy hike.

Our tour begins with a convenient pickup in front of the tourist office in the city center, which is located at the Fish Market.

En route to the national park, we'll stop at the famous Steindalsfossen waterfalls, where you can walk behind the waterfall with ease. This stop also offers a chance to pick up any snacks you may have forgotten or browse the nearby souvenir shop.

Next, we'll embark on a local ferry crossing the Hardangerfjord. This 20-minute ferry ride provides you with a panoramic view of one of Norway's most picturesque fjords.

The highlight of our tour is the visit to Bondhus Lake, located in the heart of Folgefonna National Park. The hike to the lake is easy, averaging about 45 minutes, on a path of compact soil and small rocks. It is even possible to bring a stroller, though all-terrain wheels are recommended.

The natural beauty along this route is captivating. In some places, the path is flanked by lush greenery, creating a peaceful enclosed feeling. At other moments, you will encounter crystal-clear glacier water, rushing over rocks and boulders. The true challenge on this hike is not to stop at every step to capture the beauty on camera.

Upon reaching Bondhusvatnet, an idyllic spot awaits, which is great for relaxation or enjoying the food that you brought. You can take a seat at one of the few tables or on one of the many rocks and boulders spread throughout this landscape.

After we have enjoyed our visit and walked back, we will continue the journey by taking a ferry from a different port, allowing us to enjoy another perspective of the Hardangerfjord.

The bus ride back to Bergen will take us through the countryside and multiple villages in Vestland, with a couple of photo stops planned for you so you can capture the essence of Norway's rural beauty before we arrive back in Bergen.
