Entrance Ticket To Basilica of Santa Croce
Description
The Franciscan Church of Santa Croce is one of the most beloved places in Florence because of the richness of its artistic heritage, the civic value of its funerary monuments and, above all, because this great structure symbolizes the relationship between Christian faith, art and culture in Florence and in Italy.
Its construction began in 1295, at the expense of the people and the Florentine Republic, and since then its history has been deeply intertwined with the history of the city itself.
In fact, over the centuries, spiritual, artistic and civic testimonies trace its complex identity, until in the 19th century it became a monument symbolizing the unity of the new nation. In the complex of church, cloister and museum you can admire famous works of art, fruit of Christian ingenuity and devotion of artists such as Arnolfo di Cambio, Cimabue, Giotto, Filippo Brunelleschi, Donatello, Giorgio Vasari, Lorenzo Ghiberti, Orcagna, Taddeo and Agnolo Gaddi, Della Robbia, Giovanni da Milano, Bronzino, Domenico Veneziano, Maso di Banco, Canova and others.
Santa Croce has been called "the pantheon of Italian glory" because it contains the tombs of such illustrious figures as Michelangelo Buonarroti, Galileo Galilei, Niccolò Machiavelli, Gioachino Rossini, Lorenzo Ghiberti, Vittorio Alfieri and Ugo Foscolo.
