Eidfjord: The untamed beauty of Vøringsfossen waterfall
Description
The guided tour starts with picking you up with the bus near the Cruise pier in Eidfjord.
We will take a road that is filled with natural beauty. You will see the Eio River, which is popular among amateur salmon and sea trout fishers, and enter the Måbø valley with it's authentic stone bridges.
After a few hairpin bends and steep inclinations, we'll reach the mountain plateau known as the Hardangervidda. This area is known as the biggest National Park in Norway and the biggest of its kind in Europe.
From here, it’s a short ride to the Vøringfossen waterfall, which is one of the most popular waterfalls in Norway and the main attraction in Eidfjord. You will get a good amount of time to explore the area. From the viewing platform, you will be able to enjoy an unobstructed view and see how the waterfall thunders down into the Måbø valley.
In case you feel like getting active, you can walk around the Vøringfossen waterfall by taking the 99-step walking bridge over the canyon; it's an experience that some people would describe as a thrill.
Alternatively, if you feel like taking it easy, then head over to the Fossli Hotel. Here, you can savor homemade cake and coffee in the Art Nouveau-style hotel, which was also a favorite spot of the renowned Norwegian composer Edvard Grieg
After our visit to the waterfall, the guided tour will take us to the Sysen Dam. The dam, which was built in 1960, provides an interesting experience as it is fascinating to see the deep valley on one side and the high water from the lake on the other. On clear days, Norway's sixth-biggest glacier is visible from the dam.
Next, we will continue our journey higher up the mountain plateau You'll encounter a landscape in stark contrast to what you've experienced on this guided tour. The landscape here is a barren, treeless moorland, with rocks scattered around. During our stop here, you will be able to take in this landscape and make unforgettable pictures.
On the way back to Eidfjord, the tour guide will continue sharing interesting insights. You can sit back, relax, and enjoy the sights on one of Norway's official scenic routes.
